Missions

Grace Lutheran strives to be a welcoming church family, committed to the Bible as God’s truth, worshiping together, and reaching out to love, pray for, teach, and serve others in Christ’s name.

Mission of the Month

Mission of the Month- Each month the people of Grace choose an organization, individual, or family – members or not–who needs help and encouragement.  The mission of the month receives the free-will offering collected during that month from our after-church coffee fellowship.

CURRENT MONTH’S MISSION:

July:  Tony and Vanessa Smude family

NEXT MONTH’S MISSION:

August: Vacation Bible School

The Anne Carlsen Center

Every October the free-will offering is used to buy Christmas gifts for children at the Center.  The Anne Carlsen Center is a nonprofit organization that has been providing support and services for to individuals with developmental disability or delay. Rich in tradition, the Anne Carlsen Center has positioned itself on the cutting edge of innovation with unique programs, creative therapies, and advanced assistive technologies that meet the specific needs of the developmental disability community.

Thailand Ministries

We help support a nonprofit Christian mission based in Chiang Rai, Thailand, founded by pastor and missionary Julie Olson Smude, who is a Minnesota native.

Julie works to bring Christianity to Chiang Rai and surrounding areas through the Gospel, hymns, Bible studies, prayer, mission outreach, and sharing the love of Jesus Christ. Julie helped establish a Christian church several years ago and was pastor of Chiang Rai City Church until a native Thai minister was installed. The church began with 6 or 7 people and has grown to approximately 150 members. Thailand Mission workers partner with the Chiang Rai City Church for medical and Christmas outreach to the hill tribes of northern Thailand and surrounding areas.

The Thailand Mission provides scholarships and other essential support for Christian Southeast Asian students who are attending Bible College in Chiang Rai and who do not have their own means of support. The hope is that these individuals will take their training and faith into their jobs, homes, and villages in northern Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries to share the message of Jesus Christ.

Julie is working to establish the ministry as a Thai-registered nonprofit Christian foundation, and the goal is to have it run entirely by native Thai Christians. A Thai woman named Noina, whom Julie has taught and mentored, is being trained to take over leadership of the ministry, which will be given a new Thai name.

The Thailand Mission works with Thai government agencies to set up guidelines for teaching English and Thai language. This will be valuable for missionaries coming into the country who need to learn the Thai language and want to learn how to teach English.

Stephen Ministry

“Christ Caring For People Through People”

Stephen Ministers are lay people—Christian men and women—trained to provide one-to-one care to people experiencing a difficult time in life, such as grief, divorce, job loss, chronic or terminal illness, relocation, or separation due to military deployment.

Stephen Ministers come from all walks of life. Their commonality? A passion for bringing Christ’s love and care to people during a time of need.  Since 1975, more than 600,000 people from more than 11,000 congregations and other organizations have been trained as Stephen Ministers

Five members of Grace are commissioned as Stephen Ministers after completing 50 hours of training from Pastor Brad Soenksen.

Community

Grace members care for each other and the people of the area.  We view the local church as the place where people in the community come to get connected with God and one another.  We celebrate the fact that that everyone is wired a little differently; it allows each of us to serve according to our own unique strengths, skills and talents.

Members of the congregation are active in area events including the Erhard 4th of July celebration, community dinners, and service projects.  We work with area law enforcement to provide emergency assistance to families and individuals in need.  We support and celebrate with other churches in the area to build a larger community of faith in action.
